Amazon Repays Nearly $2.5 Million In Tax Breaks To County: Report
The commerce giant didn't create the jobs at its new warehouse that it promised, and paid back the tax breaks it got.

SYOSSET, NY — Amazon has repaid the county nearly $2.5 million it received in tax breaks after it failed to live up to part of its contract.
According to Newsday, Amazon repaid the money to the Nassau Industrial Development Agency, which had given the company millions of dollars in tax breaks to develop a new warehouse at 200 Miller Place in Syosset. As part of its agreement, Amazon was to create 150 new warehouse jobs.
Instead, the company decided to close a facility in Bethpage and move those workers to Syosset, making it fall short of its goal.

“I’m glad we have done this,” Nassau IDA Chairman Richard Kessel told Newsday. “It shows that if companies aren’t able to meet their job commitments, we’re going to terminate the agreement and claw back the money.”
