Members Of Local VFW Visit Syosset School To Discuss Flag Day

SYOSSET, NY — In commemoration of Flag Day, a special assembly took place on Monday at Village Elementary School in Syosset.

Members of the Gus Scutari Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6394 in Syosset joined the students for patriotic songs. The veterans also asked the children some questions with a Flag Day theme.

The VFW guests spent time educating the assembly about the flag's history and its etiquette.

Flag Day, celebrated on June 14, was first proposed in 1861 to honor the Union soldiers fighting in the Civil War.
