Club Pilates has a saying: "Club Pilates is for every BODY."

The fitness franchise, which focuses on pilates for all experience levels, opened a new location in Woodbury this week in the Woodbury Village shopping center.

"It is a unique form of fitness that is safe and effective for any age, gender or fitness level, from an individual who has never exercised to a seasoned fitness buff," said Stacey Cooper, the gym's general manager. "Because our focus is wellness, spine health and form while exercising, our members can come as frequently as they like, without risking injury."

Club Pilates uses a unique spring-loaded reformer at the core of each of its nine classes, as well as other springboards, jump boards, exo chairs, TRX bands, barres and others, according to Cooper.

"We differ from big box gyms in many ways like our nine different classes," Cooper said. "We also have four different levels, from beginners looking to learn foundations, intermediates adding strength and flexibility, to advanced members implementing balance. There are over 500 moves one can do on the reformer alone! In addition, all of our instructors have over 500 hours of training. The comprehensive training they undergo takes nearly a year to complete."

Cooper said "regular" gym-class sizes can be very large, with individual attention being challenging.

Club Pilates' classes have no more than 12 people and equipment is not shared or rotated.

"Our goal for the member is for he or she to listen to their body to determine how they feel that particular day," Cooper said. "Options to make moves more or less challenging are always given. If a client was able to do a move last week that he or she does not feel up to doing today, they are never made to feel that they should push through. This is where our class structure absolutely differs."

Club Pilates in Woodbury is owned by David Wolk, who also owns the Commack location.

Wolk, a licensed Athletic Trainer and got his CSCS certification, has worked with post-operative high school and collegiate athletes designing rehabilitation programs to get them back to competitive form.
