Oyster Bay Town Honors Employee For Saving Child From Fire

TOWN OF OYSTER BAY — The Town of Oyster Bay recently honored a former employee for saving the life of a child from a car fire while he was on duty.

John Huttle, Jr., a longtime Town sanitation employee and resident of Bethpage, was returning to the yard in Syosset on Dec. 23, 2022, when he saw a bad car accident on his path. Because of the accident, one of the cars was on fire.

Huttle ran to the scene and helped get a young child who was stuck in a car seat out of the burning car, saving their life.

Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board recognized Huttle for his ability to act quickly and courageously and thanked him for his selflessness, presenting him with a town citation.
