Syosset High School Announces 2015 Valedictorian, Salutatorian

Syosset High School has recognized the valedictorian and salutatorian of the Class of 2015.

Syosset senior Max Carol is the class valedictorian, while Janice Chui serves as salutatorian. The designation distinguishes these students for their high academic accomplishments as well as their well-rounded participation both on school grounds and in the community.

Carol, who holds a GPA of 100 is an accomplished writer, artist, science student and volunteer. He is a member of three honor societies and is actively involved in the theater arts, having performed in more than 10 productions during his time at Syosset. Off campus, Carol is a community events volunteer at the Heckscher Museum of Art, a volunteer for the Belgrade Lakes Association in Maine, a member of the Book Buddies reading program at the Syosset Public Library and has exhibited his drawings for a fundraiser at the Walt Whitman Museum.

Chui also holds a GPA of 100 and has well-rounded talents in mathematics, music, sports and the sciences. Chui placed in the top ten teams at Nassau County’s math tournament three years in a row and earned a Gold Medal in the National Latin Exam in her sophomore year. She is an accomplished violin and piano player, making All-State designations in violin at NYSSMA. On the court, Chui excels as a varsity doubles and singles badminton player and uses her team skills as a Mathlete. Off campus, Chui has been the church pianist at New York Chinese Alliance Church since seventh grade and has participated in fundraisers for the Mathletes at the district’s annual carnival.

“I’m very proud of both students’ high academic achievements and all that they have done both outside and inside the classroom,” said Dr. Giovanni Durante, Syosset High School’s principal.

Both Carol and Chui will deliver addresses to the Class of 2015 at its graduation commencement in June.
