ELMSFORD, NY — The Elmsford school district had a proposed budget for 2023-24 that voters soundly rejected May 16.

School administrators and the Board of Education came back with a revised budget for 2023-24 and will try to get it passed on Tuesday.

Homeowners can expect a tax levy increase of 2.58 percent under the revised budget, down from 5.48 percent which was rejected at the polls.

The average homeowner should see taxes of $9,879 for the year under the revised budget. The original budget estimated taxes of $10,158.

In May, voters rejected a proposition to increase the capital reserve fund from $5 million to $25 million, something that would have had no monetary impact on the taxpayers.

On Tuesday, voters will be asked to approve taking $1 million from capital reserves for necessary projects, such as work on the HVAC system and the security vestibule at Alice E. Grady Elementary School and drainage and masonry work at Carl L. Dixson Primary School.

According to the New York State Education Department, if the voters fail to approve the budget after the second submission, the Board of Education must adopt a contingency budget.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Alice E. Grady Music Room, Cobb Lane in Elmsford.
