Greenburgh Town Board approves contract with Police Association

It's important to have good relations with all our employees

Greenburgh has many exceptionally dedicated town employees who work hard every day. I am very pleased that on Wednesday evening the Greenburgh Town Board unanimously approved the last unresolved contract with one of our unions – the Police Association.
The contract covers the years 2024 to the end of 2026. Had the Board failed to negotiate a contract the dispute would have been settled by mandatory arbitration, a requirement of the NYS Taylor Law. This contract was challenging at times and there were compromises on both sides. In the future I hope that negotiations can take place without having to incur additional outside legal expenses. I also believe that contracts should be approved the same year the contract begins—not a few years after services were rendered.
We also have outstanding contracts with some of the volunteer fire departments -dating back to 2024. I have written to all the villages that have volunteer fire departments and asked that they provide the Town Board with their proposed contracts by the end of March of the year the contract begins so that the Town Board can finalize the contract the same year. I don’t believe that it's good policy to argue over terms of a contract two years after the services were delivered.

By having ratified contracts – we can continue to attract skilled police officers. We can retain experienced officers who might otherwise leave for better condition and reduce turnover, training and overtime expenses
A big thank you to our outstanding Greenburgh police officers who keep us safe and really care about our community. Another shout out to members of the Teamsters and CSEA for also working very hard during the year and making management and elected officials look good. All your work is appreciated.
