Sleepy Hollow Neighbor vs. the Bands

Should this music party have been allowed to continue on a Saturday afternoon? Weigh in the comments.

Philipse Manor resident Mitch Rubin shared this post on Facebook's 10591 group page that has residents talking:

I want to congratulate the 3 bands from Sleepy Hollow High School who played in my garage last Saturday afternoon for organizing a great event. The music was super and the crowd was awesome.

Unfortunately, a neighbor from Farrington Avenue felt the need to call the police at 5:00 in the afternoon and register a noise complaint. According to the fine print of the law, any amplified sound requires a permit and so the music was shut down.

I would hope that going forward, if anyone in Philipse Manor has a problem with a neighbor, he/she would take the less aggressive step of knocking on the door and communicating any concerns. It is easy to criticize teenagers for getting into mischief; I don't think it is wise to smash a constructive outlet.

The online response has been supportive (his post merited 40 'Likes') with such comments as:

"In the good old days, the neighbor would have enjoyed teens playing music! and if not they would have called....you, not the police! what a shame, kids get in trouble for doing something good!!! I can only imagine what it takes to get a permit!!!!!!"

"I grew up in the Manor...and this makes me very sad...from what you are saying here I can only gather that the amp output outweighs the 10 PM noise ordinance..doesn't make much sense and SHAME, SHAME, SHAME on that neighbor...keep on truckin' and don't let them get you down!!!"

Rubin responded to these comments with, "The bands (not me) kept reminding each other to turn down the volume on the amps. They were super conscious of doing the right thing and were disappointed with the outcome. (As was I)."
