Soil Remediation Begins on Beekman Property

Ongoing clean up work has gotten off the side streets and now become very visible on Beekman.

Remediation crews replaced the soil on seven properties surrounding the former Mallory battery plant in Sleepy Hollow in the fall; now they are back in full action for the duration of the warmer months.

Work has become visible, by way of those high green-lined fences men in bright yellow vests work behind, on the main street of Beekman now. There's an air quality monitor erected on the sidewalk across the street.

Before this, the crews were working in sequence starting from Kendall but seemed to have skipped ahead. "They must have had an opportunity to do one on Beekman and took it," said Village Administrator Anthony Giaccio.

Officials expect to complete 24 properties this summer, for a total of 31 so far. There's about 100 properties to do in total so at this rate Giaccio anticipates a few more years of soil remediation to come.
