Welcome to Patch's snapshot of sports in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.
From Michael Weitzen comes this Mustangs update:
AYSO Tarrytown under age 10 girls travel soccer team defeated the visiting Croton Fighting Tigers 2-1 on Saturday April 20th to complete the sweep for the 2012-2013 season. The Tarrytown Mustangs started the game strong controlling the tempo and keeping the ball in Tiger territory almost the entire first half. The Mustangs had far more shots on goal than the visitors but entered the half tied at zero. In the third period the Tigers had a break away opportunity and went up one nothing despite being outplayed to that point. Julia Costa then used her fresh legs after playing keeper in the first half and tied the game late in the third period with a critical goal. In the final period Emma Clarke crossed the ball to Maya Weitzen who found Samantha Livingston for her first goal of the year and also the game winning shot.

Despite only two goals generated, the offense provided unrelenting pressure and multiple shots on goal. Catherine Grimes, Sam Nutig and Sophie Sylves-Berry were outstanding in their offensive play. The defense led by Maddy Navin, Sadie Swenson, and Annie Dineen held the Tigers at bay and mostly played forward, returning the ball to the offense or shooting on goal themselves. The Mustangs next have a bye week where they will scrimmage against their parents. Things then get serious the following week where they travel to Pleasantville on May 4th. Pleasantville will be looking for revenge from the Somers Fall Classic Tournament as the Mustangs are the only team to beat them in over a year. The Mustangs' last visit to Pleasantville resulted in a 5-1 loss. The Mustangs are now 10 wins, 1 loss, and 2 ties on the 2012-2013 season.

Finally, another note from Karen Kuhn:
Take the Buildings and Fieldings Survey!
On the subject of fields, some of you may have seen via other sports groups or the TUFSD news that a committee led by Dr. Howard Smith is working on a ballot measure for drastically needed school facility and field improvements. Representatives from different community sports groups, both village rec departments and the schools have met numerous times and came up with a tentative plan which would include the installation of one or more turf fields in our community.
We need input from all members of our community on this measure before we bring it to the Board of Education. We can take advantage of available funding to keep the cost reasonable and the more information we can gather now on what the community wants to do, the better our likelihood of success will be.
Please take some time to complete this survey, and share it with others in the community. We want to hear from everyone! Thank you!

Patch will issue another friendly reminder on this on Monday as it's due by the end of the month!
