The Mustang girls had also defeated the Panthers in the fall 3-0 at Losee field. All winter the Mustangs have been practicing twice a week indoors and their passing game showed great improvement on Saturday.

The girls started strong with Caroline Grimes scoring the first goal of the game early in the first quarter. Then Sophie Sylves-Berry earned an assist by drawing the goalie to her and passing to wide open Maya Weitzen for an easy goal. Julia Costa played a shut out half at keeper, making multiple saves and even survived a penalty shot kick from the Panthers. The Panthers were then penalized for a hand ball and Maya Weitzen took the penalty shot and placed the ball inside the low left post where the North Salem goalie could not reach to give the Mustang's their third goal by halftime.

In the second half Julia Costa and Emma Clarke took apart the North Salem defense with multiple passes ending in an assist from Julia and a solid goal from Emma to go up 4-0. North Salem finally managed two goals late in game with one coming off an indirect penalty kick that found its way through a gap in the Mustang wall. Sam Nutig was the most active player on the field, showing great hustle and always in the correct position. Sadie Swenson and Maddie Navin were stellar on defense and they had help from Catherine Grimes who moved positions to fill in for absent Annie Dineen.
The mustangs play next Saturday at Washington Irving Field against Croton at 2:10 PM. They now have 9 wins, 1 loss, and 2 ties for 2012-2013 season.
