Sports Digest: Women's Eastern Long Jumpers

This week's round-up of Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown grads in college sports action from Dick Miller:

Two graduates of Sleepy Hollow, Gillian Berger '12  and Genevieve Ruppel '09, competed in the women's Eastern Long Jump, at the Penn Relays on Apr. 25. With 19 athletes competing in the event, Berger finished 11th, with a distance of 18-0.25. Ruppel was 18th, with 16-9.25. Berger is at The University of Pennsylvania, and Ruppel is at St. Joseph's University.

In a quad track and field meet with New Hampshire, The University of Rhode Island, and Worcester State on Apr. 23rd, Rob Cacace of Hackley and Holy Cross, was seventh in the High Jump, with his best distance 18-09.25, out of ten who competed in the event. His team finished fourth with a total of 19 points.

In a single game with Temple University on Apr. 24th, the Pennsylvania U. Quakers topped the Owls, 6-2. Samantha Erosa of Sleepy Hollow had one putout and two assists at second base. In a twin bill at Columbia University on Apr. 26th, they dropped the opener, 8-6, with Erosa having three putouts. In the winning second game by an 8-6 score, she had three putouts and six assists.

The Lehigh Mountain Hawks' women's tennis season ended with a loss to Colgate University on Apr. 26th at West Point, in the first round of the Patriot League Championship. Ali Kaminetsky of the Hackley School lost to her singles match, 7-5,2-6, and 2-0, while her doubles twosome fell to their Red Raider opponents, 4-3. The season ended with a record of 5-15/2-4.
