Downed Wires Shut N. Belle Meade Road Friday Morning

Road closed during the morning rush hour, causing heavy delays on Route 347.

A downed utility pole caused North Belle Meade Road to be shut down on Friday morning, also causing heavy delays on Route 347.

Police received reports at approximately 8 a.m. saying that a pole appeared to be swinging in the wind near Technology Drive. The Setauket Fire Department and LIPA responded.

"A crew was dispatched to immediately pull back the pole and wires to get the road reopened, and will now go back to set a new pole and make permanent repairs," LIPA spokesman Mark Gross told Patch.
