Fatal Crash Leads To DWI Charge On Long Island: Police
The crash, which killed a motorcyclist, 24, took place in Stony Brook early Saturday, police say.
STONY BROOK, NY —A man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after a crash that killed a motorcyclist in Stony Brook early Saturday, police said.
According to Suffolk County police, the incident took place on Nesconset Highway at New Moriches Road in Stony Brook at about 12:22 a.m.
Jerry Diaz, 24, of Nesconset, was riding a 2022 Honda CRF450RL westbound on Nesconset Highway when the motorcycle collided with a northbound 2017 GMC truck turning left onto westbound Nesconset Highway from New Moriches Road, police said.

Diaz, 24, of Nesconset, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
The driver of the GMC, Mark Anthony Giordano, 25, of St. James, was arrested and charged with DWI, police said. He was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.

The vehicles were impounded; major case unit detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call 631-852-6553.
