  2. Holidays are around the corner and there's nothing better than enjoying a warm dessert after a fantastic meal. Long Island is served by various family-owned bakeries that use local produce to create the best recipes for all. 3. Emma Clark Library hosts the "Curator's Book Table" with Jonathan M. Olly talking about the Long Island Museum publication, “The Long Road to Freedom: Surviving Slavery on Long Island.” Click here to register for this event that is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. (Patch Events)
  4. Nearby News: A woman found with gunshot wounds behind a parking lot in Coram died from her injuries. The incident happened on Saturday morning at Taino's Lounge parking lot around 1:30 a.m. Police arrived at the scene and transported the victim to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue, where she was pronounced dead. Patch deal of the day:

Good knives make all the difference in the kitchen, but you don’t need to overpay for them. Seido Japanese knives are made with strong high-carbon stainless steel (high-carbon knives are more durable and usually more expensive) and have an acute 15-degree angle for a noticeably sharper cutting face (most Western-style knives have edge angles of 25 degrees). For a limited time, Patch readers can get a 5-piece Seido Japanese master knife set for 71 percent off. At just under $70, this chef-quality set is perfect for any home cook and would also make a great gift for the holidays.
