Long Island Boat Explosion Seriously Injures Woman: Police
She was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment, along with a man who had minor injuries, police said.
STONY BROOK, NY — A boat exploded, injuring two people, one seriously, in Stony Brook Saturday night, Suffolk police said.
At around 6 p.m., 54-year-old East Setauket man was operating his boat, a 2003 Sea Ray Sundancer, in Smithtown Bay, traveling from Sunken Meadow State Park to Stony Brook Marina, when it stalled, police said, adding that an explosion took place a short time after it was restarted.
His wife, 53, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said. Another passenger, a 58-year-old man from Holbrook, was taken to the same hospital for treatment of minor injuries, according to police.

The boat operator, and another passenger on the boat, were not injured, police said.
The cause of the explosion is under investigation, but it does not appear to be suspicious, according to police.
