Memorial Quilt Remembering AIDS Victims on Display at SBU

NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt will be shown between 12 p.m. and 9 p.m. today.

The NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt serves not only to honor the memory of those who died of AIDS, but also as a reminder that the illness is still a pandemic to this day. Conceived in 1987 in San Francisco and nominated at one point for a Nobel Prize, it is composed of more than 48,000 panels measuring three feet by six feet sewn together by the friends, lovers, and family members of victims. The quilt is on display at Center for Leadership and Service at Stony Brook after 12 p.m. Monday, and will culminate in a closing ceremony at 9 p.m.
