Middle Country Library in Selden Gets $2.3M Facelift

Renovations include a new entrance, upgrades to the youth services department and the adult section.

A $2.3 million renovation is complete at the the Middle Country Public Library in Selden, with upgrades including a new entrance and improvements to the children and adult areas.

The project, which began in June, focused on four main areas: the entrance, lobby, Youth Services Department on the lower level and the Adult Services Department upstairs.

The new entrance to the library at 575 Middle Country Road has been repositioned closer to the visitor parking lot. The lobby renovation includes a redesign to "support the library's current self-service circulation model," drive-up material return available 24 hours a day and a new vending a coffee station, according to library officials.

A new children's programming room and bathroom were built in the Youth Services Department, as well as a designated computer and teen seating area. Direct access to the Teen Resource Lounge was also installed.

In the Adult Services Department, the renovation included three small meeting rooms and a bathroom, additional public computers and an area for Miller Business Collection.

In June, library officials announced the project would be paid for through "prudent financial planning and funds that were allocated to the library’s capital reserves." Taxpayers did not see any increase.
