SBU Cross Country Runner Struck by Minivan Dies From Injuries
Noah Farrelly, 18, is being remembered as "the nicest, most genuine person you would ever meet."

STONY BROOK, NY – The Stony Brook University community is mourning the death of one of its students. Freshman Noah Bernard Farrelly died from injuries suffered when he was struck by a minivan near the campus Tuesday morning, Suffolk Police announced Thursday night.
Farrelly, a member of the school's men's cross country team, was jogging across southbound Nicolls Road at the intersection of Health Sciences Drive when he was struck at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday. No charges have been filed against the 65-year-old driver who had a green light at the time.
"This is a devastating loss to all, especially Noah’s family, his fellow athletes, coaches and friends,” Richard Gatteau, Stony Brook's interim vice president for student affairs and dean of students, wrote in the email, according to a report in The Statesman. “On behalf of Stony Brook University, I express heartfelt condolences to all who knew and cared for Noah.”

Farrelly, of Binghamton, was a Section IV champion as a member of the cross country team at Binghamton High School.
"I think the thing that keeps me in it is getting to work with kids like Noah,” David Cody, the head cross country coach at Binghamton High, told WBNG.

An online fundraiser for Farrelly's family on GoFundMe eclipsed a $10,000 goal in less than a day.

"He is the nicest, most genuine person you would ever meet; easygoing and friendly, but tough and driven at the same time," the fundraiser's organizer wrote. "He will always shake your hand and congratulate you after a race, and you know he's out there giving it his all every time. His parents Jim and Bridgette are the same way, and they don't deserve to have to go through this alone."
Today, I have learned that Noah Farrelly has unfortunately passed away. He was only 18 years old. I will always remember Noah as the nicest person I’ve ever met and I will never forget him and all the memories we shared. Take care buddy.
