  1. A Stony Brook University student will spend his spring break trying to help Ukrainian refugees. After a children's hospital and maternity facility were hit in Mariupol, student Thomas Brinkley began organizing a donation drive of blankets, diapers, powdered milk, and toiletries. Donations will be sent to Romania, where the majority of refugees are now. (News 12)
  2. Nassakeag Elementary School sixth-graders students Dylan Liu, Lawrence Sun, and Terrence Wang won second place in the school stock market game. The game is sponsored by the SIFMA Foundation and consists of an online simulation of investments in the capital market. (TVSD)
  3. The Reboli Center for Art and History will soon open the exhibit "BLOOM" from April 12 through July 10. Bloom is an uplifting exhibition that celebrates the end of winter and the rebirth of the environment surrounding us. (Reboli Center)
  4. Emma S. Clark Memorial Library features songs, tunes, and stories of Ireland community service. On Tuesday, March 22, at 7 p.m. historian Mike McCormack and musician John Corr, will show you ballads, dance melodies, and amazing details and background to the songs of the Emerald Isle.   5. Breeze Airlines is flighting passengers from MacArthur Airport to Louisville, Kentucky. The flights are direct from Long Island to Louisville for the Kentucky Derby. The airline is trying to connect underserved airports to Long Island to expand destinations and boost tourism in the area. (Patch)

  • A homeless man has been charged with a hate crime after making graffiti of a swastika in Port Jefferson Station. The graffiti was found at a building located on Route 112 on March 4. According to the police, Carl Vario was arrested after an investigation and charged accordingly. (Port Jefferson Patch)
  • Pre-leasing begins at Brightview senior complex in Port Jefferson Station. The complex is still under construction but announced that the leasing is open now to 170 tenants. The complex is located at 1175 Route 112 and is expected to be officially open this fall. (Long Island Business News)
