Here are the top stories today in Three Village:

  1. As COVID-19 cases are on the rise on Long Island, several sites are offering walk-in tests. It's important to get tested if you have COVID-19 symptoms after being exposed, even if you are fully vaccinated or recently recovered from COVID-19 in the last 3 months.   2. Ward Melville High School and Three Village Industry Advisory Board will host the 4th Annual Career Exploration Fair. On Jan. 19 at 6:30 p.m., the WMHS Cafeteria will have over 50 businesses from many industries helping to guide students in discovering their own personal career path options. Students (and parents) in grades 7-12 from Gelinas, Murphy and Ward Melville are invited. (Three Village School District)
  3. A Suffolk nonprofit plans to sell site in Port Jefferson to recoup back taxes and electrify LIRR branch. About $17 million in unpaid taxes would be reimbursed and part of the property will be set aside for a possible railroad yard or train station, according to officials. The plan also may relocate the Port Jefferson train station and electrify the Long Island Rail Road's Huntington branch. (Newsday - Subscription Needed)
  4. The Midnight on Main St. in Patchogue is canceled because of COVID-19 issues. The big celebration was scheduled for Friday, New Year’s Eve, in Patchogue but event organizers announced the cancellation on Tuesday. (Greater Long Island)

  • "Suffolk police officers responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired in Gordon Heights on Tuesday. A call came in that shots were fired on Granny Road at about 9 p.m., and when police arrived, officers were 'unable to find any indication that a shooting had taken place,' police said. No further details were released." (Port Jefferson Patch)
