  1. Ward Melville High School performed wonderfully in the Tony Toro track meet at Suffolk County Community College. On Sunday morning, Jan. 16, the team conquered a third place in a performance of nine minutes and 12.45 seconds. Click here for pictures and scores. (TBR)
  2. Winter is a great time to plan a garden to be planted in spring! Emma Clark Memorial Library has a series of community programs that will teach the community how to prepare the soil and what to plant during the spring season. On Jan. 20, the class will be about herbs and their use through thousands of years for healing purposes. Also, tips for storage, nutritional benefits, and culinary uses will be discussed. The Ward Melville High School graduate and actor Kevin James, from Stony Brook, returned to Long Island to shine on a stage production called "Oliver!” James also played a villain portrayed in the Charles Dickens story at Cultural Arts Playhouse, in Syosset.   4. Nearby News: Long Islanders honored the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. legacy on Jan. 17. A march to celebrate the civil rights fighter started at the streets of Long Beach and ended at the Martin Luther King Community Center on Riverside Boulevard. In Hempstead, a ceremony was held, and attendees were encouraged to continue the fight for equality and voting rights.
