- For those who want to relax and enjoy good music on "hump day," the next Jam Session of the Stony Brook Jazz Loft is set for Wednesday, Oct. 26. The event starts at 7 p.m. at 275 Christian Ave, Stony Brook. For tickets, visit here. (The Jazz Loft)
- Three Village School District celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month. Students had the opportunity to participate in cultural activities to honor Hispanic Americans. Food, music, heritage, literature and other categories were offered. Visit the provided link to see some photos of the celebrations. (TVSD)
- Long Islanders are expected to pay more for the traditional Thanksgiving turkey this year. According to the Department of Agriculture, prices are 73% up compared to 2021. Inflation is the leading cause of the high prices. Some food banks on Long Island, such as LI Harvest and LI Cares, said they would prepare non-traditional meals to complement distribution among families. (Long Island News 12)

From my notebook:
- The community gathered to attend Coram teenager Tyler Phillips' funeral held on Saturday. Phillips was a victim of a hit-and-run early this month. No arrests were made, and police continued to search for the driver. A cash reward is offered for whoever has information that leads to an identification and arrest. (Long Island News 12)
- Food samples and lots of history will be served at our local library on Tuesday. Instructor Diane Schwindt will teach old recipes that have been "on the table" for ages. The workshop starts at 6:30 p.m. Click here to register. (Patch Events)
