15 Upper East Side Schools Named Among Best In United States

More than a dozen Upper East Side public and private schools made it onto the much-scrutinized Niche rankings, which were released Tuesday.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Besides its museums and architecture, the Upper East Side may be best known for its bevy of top-ranked schools — and a new list gives more proof of the neighborhood's embarrassment of educational riches.

The website Niche released on Tuesday its annual lists of the best public and private high schools in America, based on metrics like test scores and academic performance, data from the U.S. Department of Education, as well as ratings from students, parents and alumni.

A whopping 15 schools on the Upper East Side cracked the list — one public and 14 private institutions. Here they are.

Public schools

Niche's new 2023 Best Schools and Districts rankings provide insight for parents on 92,743 public schools, 30,112 private schools and 11,820 school districts nationwide, according to the website.

Elsewhere in the city, the Upper West Side's Trinity School was named New York's best private school, and the sixth-best in the U.S.

The nationwide top spot on the private-school list went to Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass. — its third straight year topping the list.

This year's best public school, meanwhile, is the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, N.C., which led the list for the first time ever.
