UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Omakase is all the rage across the city's restaurant scene. But have you ever heard of affordable omakase?

At least one restaurant is doing it, and they just signed a new lease in Yorkville.

Sushi by M is set to open a new location to serve their affordable omakase from at 1575 Second Ave. between East 81st and 82nd streets, according to TradedNY.

With two locations in the East Village, Sushi by M offers two menus with prices far below the often mid-three-figures seen at some omakase spots.

The two chef menus, priced at $69 for 12 courses and $100 for 16 courses, change with availability, according to their website. Both come with one handroll.

But don't let the prices fool you — chef Tim Lin is well-known for his sushi skills and inventive offerings, in addition to traditional omakase, plus rare finds like Shiro Ebi Caviar, or baby white shrimp.

Lin, a chef for over two decades, spent three years alone perfecting his soft sushi rice technique, he told Business Insider.

Eater called Sushi by M an "unfussy yet intimate spot" that focuses on "unique flavor profiles and unexpected combinations."

One of his best known dishes is called the Big Mac, a $25 creation which offers seared toro, chopped toro, and two types of uni stacked with wagyu inside a piece of seaweed.

Sushi by M will be taking over the former home of tea, coffee and summertime gelato spot, Ateaz, which closed in 2022.
