Annual Upper East Side Shopping Event Returns Saturday

The 35th annual Miracle on Madison Avenue is back with a good cause this weekend — and festive attractions to entice shoppers.

The event on Saturday, Dec. 4, includes 62 participating retailers along the avenue. As has been the case for the last 10 years, the stores will donate 20 percent of all sales to the Society of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Upper East Siders in need of some holiday gifts will be in luck this weekend, as the Miracle on Madison Avenue shopping event returns for the 35th straight year.

The event on Saturday, Dec. 4, includes 62 participating retailers along the avenue. As has been the case for the past 10 years, the stores will donate 20 percent of all sales — up to $15,000 per store — to the Society of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center's pediatric initiatives.

To mark the Miracle's 35th anniversary, this year's event will include a mile-and-a-half stroll of carolers singing holiday songs, a mascot polar bear greeter six-foot-high balloon towers flanking participating stores, and other in-store programming and treats.

As always, the event was organized by the Madison Avenue Business Improvement District, whose website features a full list of shops joining this year's Miracle — ranging from the Apple Store to La Maison du Chocolat to Giorgio Armani and Jimmy Choo.

As a special accommodation this year, customers who can't shop in-person on Saturday can still call or email a "Miracle Personal Shopper" at each participating store to make their purchase go to a good cause.

"Thirty-five years ago, two Madison Avenue shop owners organized their neighbors for the first Miracle on Madison Avenue as a coordinated way for Madison Avenue stores and shoppers to give to New York City children in need," said Matthew Bauer, president of the B.I.D., in a statement.

"The longevity and continued enthusiasm for this event is testament to the commitment of Madison Avenue to making the holiday season brighter for NYC kids."
