Bank Robbed On Upper East Side, Police Say

A man robbed the Citibank on East 86th Street Thursday morning after handing a note to a teller demanding cash, police said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A man robbed a bank on a busy Upper East Side street Thursday morning after demanding cash from a teller, police said.

The robbery happened around 9:42 a.m. at the Citibank on East 86th Street between Park and Lexington avenues.

The man passed a note to the teller demanding money, and the teller complied, handing him an unknown amount of cash, an NYPD spokesperson said. He then fled the location.

Police described the suspect only as a heavyset man wearing a beige coat and a face mask.

Reports of robberies, burglaries and grand larcenies have all decreased on the Upper East Side this year compared to 2020, according to NYPD statistics.
