Blue Apron Debuts On-Demand Delivery On Upper East Side

The meal subscription service is partnering with Seamless and Grubhub to test out delivery in select Upper East Side zip codes.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — The Blue Apron meal subscription service has provided an alternative to grocery shopping since it launched in 2012. Now the company is tackling delivery, exclusively on the Upper East Side.

Blue Apron has partnered with Seamless and Grubhub to offer on-demand delivery of its ready-to-cook meals in five Upper East Side zip codes: 10021, 10028, 10065, 10075 and 10128. The delivery area effectively covers the entire neighborhood from East 60th Street up to East 96th Street.

The delivery service promises a revolving menu of pre-packaged and prepared food that cooks in less than 30 minutes, according to a press release. Users can use the Seamless or Grubhub websites or mobile applications to order delivery just like they would at any other neighborhood restaurant.

"This new on-demand product is a complement to our core offering, giving consumers — for the first time —the option to have a Blue Apron meal delivered to their doorstep in less than an hour," said Brad Dickerson, CEO, Blue Apron. "We are thrilled to launch this initial pilot to expand the reach of our brand, and expect to build on this new competency with additional same day, on-demand platforms over the coming months.”"

Items from vendors such as Vermont Creamery cheeses, Irving Farm coffee and Brodo are also available through the delivery service.

Delivery customers do not have to be signed up to Blue Apron's subscription service to order through Seamless or Grubhub and first-time customers will get a discount of 40 percent. Some of the meals available on the week of Oct. 1 include creamy pesto cavatelli with spinach, zucchini, and tomatoes, spicy beef and gnocchi with zucchini and a four-serving portion of stir-fried sweet chili chicken with broccoli and rice.
