Bus-Taking Bandits Pull Daylight Heists On UES And UWS: NYPD

Two brazen bandits robbed a newsstand on the UES, police said, before taking the bus over to the UWS for a second heist.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY – At approximately 12:50 p.m., two unidentified men approached a newsstand near East 79th Street and York Avenue, where they forcibly removed an undetermined amount of currency from the cash register, police said.

A victim at the scene sustained minor injuries, and refused medical attention, according to officials.

The assailants fled on an MTA bus, according to police.

Although cops couldn’t confirm which bus the robbers took, it was almost certainly the M79-SBS (Select Bus Service), because about 20 minutes later, police responded to a second 911 call for a robbery, this time on the Upper West Side.

At approximately 1:10 p.m., the two men robbed a second newsstand, this one near 81st Street and Columbus Avenue, according to police.

There the robbers brandished a firearm and one of them struck a male victim in the head with it, police said. The men obtained an unknown amount of currency and fled to parts unknown, according to police.

The victim refused medical attention at the scene, officials said.

Both suspects are described as men with dark complexions: one was dressed in all gray – a gray sweatshirt and gray sweatpants – and the other in all black, police said.

No arrests have been reported and an investigation is ongoing.
