UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A small Italian-style cafe on the Upper East Side has apparently said farewell to the neighborhood.

Poppi, the cafe and wine bar nestled on 69th Street between Fifth and Madison, appears to have closed its doors a little more than two years after opening.

Cafe employees informed Patch in May that the shop was expected to close sometime during the summer, but did not specify an exact date at the time. However, it appears that the shop closed sometime this week.

Calls made to the coffee shop went unanswered, and the phone line has since been disconnected.

The news was also highlighted by the popular neighborhood Instagram account UES Things, whose post about the closure also noted that a sign on the door mentioned Birley Bakery, a popular pastry shop based in London.

Poppi debuted on the Upper East Side in early 2022. Catering to early risers, the café offered a complete coffee menu with espresso, lattes and cortados, complemented by an array of pastries. As the day progressed, patrons could enjoy focaccia sandwiches, negronis on tap, a curated wine list and charcuterie boards during the afternoon and into the evening.

The cafe co-founders, Kristen Harper, Fern Moufarrige and Charlotte Snyder, said that Fattoria La Vialla, a family-run organic-biodynamic farm and wine estate in Tuscany, was the inspiration behind Poppi.

The reason behind the impending closure was not immediately made clear.
