Off-Duty Firefighter Attacked By Teens On UES, Police Say

The firefighter noticed a group of teens harassing a couple on East 86th Street when he intervened in the situation.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — An off-duty firefighter suffered a bad beating when he came to the aid of a couple being harassed by a group of teenagers on the Upper East Side, police said.

The 38-year-old firefighter attempted to aid the elderly couple on East 86th Street between Second and Third avenues on Saturday night when he was punched and pushed to the ground, police said. The man was "continuously" hit in the body while on the ground, police said.

EMS took the man to NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center where he was treated for a concussion and broken teeth, police said.

Police said the group of teenagers was made up of three boys and three girls between the ages of 15 and 17.
