East 67th Street Library To Close For Renovations

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — An Upper East Side library will close in March for a months-long renovation, New York Public Library officials announced Wednesday.

The East 67th Street library branch, located between First and Second avenues, is expected to close on March 1 and reopen sometime during the summer, according to an NYPL press release. The library's roof will be repaired to improve drainage and its HVAC and electrical system will be replaced in a $2 million renovation project.

"This important project—which will ensure that 67th Street Library can best serve New Yorkers now and in the future and is part of a significant investment in the branches by New York City and The New York Public Library system," library officials wrote in an email sent to branch visitors.

East 67th Street library users should go to one of three nearby branches while the renovations are ongoing, library officials said. The closest branches are the 58th Street branch between Park and Lexington avenues, the Webster Library on York Avenue and East 78th Street and the Yorkville Library on East 79th Street between Third and Second avenues.

Items on hold at the East 67th Street branch after March 1 can be picked up at the Webster Library.

Funding for the library renovation was allocated by City Councilman Ben Kallos and Mayor Bill de Blasio, library officials said.
