UPPER EAST SIDE — A New York City restaurateur behind celebrated eateries in Manhattan and Queens has opened a new Chinese fusion restaurant on the Upper East Side.

Jackey Sun — whose Flushing restaurant Hunan House was listed among Michelin's Bib Gourmands in 2016 — has claimed Shun Lee Cafe's former location at 1442 Third Ave., near East 82nd Street, for a new restaurant called Tang By Mr. Sun.

"People are coming in to eat every day," manager Melissa told Patch, noting she's loved trying all the new dishes. "I gained three pounds."

Tang by Mr. Sun had its soft opening last week, according to Melissa.

The menu features high-end takes on classic Chinese fare such as Kung Pao Chicken, beef ribs with red wine sauce and pumpkin cream and Beijing chicken with walnuts and sweet bean sauce.

The restaurant is seeking a full liquor license, city records show.

Sun owns five restaurants across New York City, including outposts in Long Island City and Midtown, Melissa said.

Melissa could not confirm the names of those eateries, but Sun's name appears in the New York Times announcement of Mr. Sun opening in Midtown.

Eater gave Chairman Sun in Long Island City a rave review last April.

"Jackey Sun, owner of Flushing restaurant Hunan House, opened Chairman Sun on one of the neighborhood’s busiest streets in summer 2019," Eater writes.

"Even with the many competing restaurants in the vicinity, this dining room, which features a fake cherry tree and a water feature, easily fills up at dinner time. It’s not hard to see why."

The official opening isn't until September, and Tang is still waiting on some decor items from China, according to Melissa.

But a slew of not-professional but equally ecstatic reviews on Yelp suggest Tang By Mr. Sun is more than ready.

"First and foremost the food is EXQUISITE," writes Ryan B. "The duck is one of the best I've ever had."

"Service is amazing," wrote Karen C. "Very nice ambience."

The eatery is open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
