“Italian donuts are milk, butter and flour, which is flavorful but heavy," founder and baker Antonio "Tony" Park told amNY in 2021. "Korean donuts are made with water, oil and sugar. It’s the same dough, but different ingredients. I wanted to figure out a way to enjoy it and not be so full.”
After opening their first location in Hell's Kitchen, the New York Times called Park's four cheese focaccia "an exceptional treat." Eater NY placed his bakery on a list of the best donuts in the city.
Park was born in Palermo, Italy, on the island of Sicily, and is of Korean descent. He studied pastry at Scuola Alberghiera of Palermo and worked as a pastry chef in Italy until he moved to the United States in his 20's, according to his website.
His bakeries are named after his daughter, and his baking is inspired by his Italian grandmother.
Angelina Bakery also has locations in Hell's Kitchen, Times Square and Koreatown.
