Firefighter Assaults Girlfriend In UES Apartment, Police Say

The New York City firefighter turned himself into police and is facing charges of assault and obstruction of breathing.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A New York City firefighter is facing charges for beating and choking his girlfriend in her Upper East Side apartment, police said.

Albert Serino, 41, turned himself in Monday at the NYPD's 19th Precinct station house on East 67th Street, police said. The FDNY employee — who earned $117,202 last year according to a database of public employee salaries — was charged with assault and criminal obstruction of breathing.

The firefighter attacked his girlfriend on Saturday night after an argument, police said. Serino is accused of slamming the woman into an apartment wall, throwing her to the floor, placing his knee on her throat and choking her during the assault, police said.
