Le Cirque Plans Upper East Side Comeback In 2019, Report Says
The family behind the famed French restaurant is pursuing investors and is close to closing on a new Upper East Side space.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Le Cirque, a former staple of the Upper East Side fine dining scene, is nearing its return to the neighborhood after two stints in Midtown spaces, according to reports.
The Maccioni family — which first opened Le Cirque in the former Mayfair Hotel on East 65th Street in the 70s — is pursuing investors and is lining up a new space, the New York Post reported. The family hasn't closed on anything, but is reportedly in the "final stages" of its comeback and hopes to open in 2019, the Post reported.
The return represents a quick turnaround for the French fine dining staple, which was forced out of its East 58th Street after declaring bankruptcy. Eater New York reported in 2017 that the Maccioni family would target the Upper East Side for its comeback.

"This is the neighborhood that made my father's reputation, and we know the clientele that well," Marco Maccioni told Eater.
The publication reported at the time that the family was eyeing space in 36 E. 60th St., located between Madison and Park avenues, but could not confirm the address would be home to the newest iteration of Le Cirque.
