Local businesses are the heart of our communities. Patch had a chance to talk with Matt Davis, Marketing Consultant, of Open Squash.
Patch: Tell us a bit about your business or organization:
Matt Davis: When you're part of Open Squash, you're part of a movement. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization on a mission: to make the game of squash—and all its health and social benefits—accessible to everyone, at all levels and from all walks of life.

Patch: How long have you been doing business in town?
Matt Davis: We've been open since 2020.
Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?
Matt Davis: Goodbye, stuffy old boys clubs. We’re bringing this endorphin-pumping, mood-boosting, life-altering game to everyone who wants in…and we mean everyone. It’s no secret. We love squash. We love everything about it: the way it forces us to focus on the next swing, the next point, the ball right in front of us and nothing else for an hour or so. The way it bonds us to a community of people who are just as squash-obsessed as we are. We love how it makes us sweat—not in a boring, walk-on-the-treadmill kind of way, but in a fun, fast paced, oh-my-gosh-I-forgot-I-was-even-exercising kind of way. And most of all, we love how squash makes us aim higher. Pun intended. We opened in 2020 with the simple mission of bringing this amazing sport to more people—at every level and from all walks of life. Young people. Old people. Women. Men. Nonbinary people. People who can afford to pay, and people who can’t. At Open Squash, our doors are open to all.

Matt Davis: Get in touch, come in, and try playing! We have a warm community of players waiting to greet you.
Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
Matt Davis: Growing a fabulous New York squash community.
Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?
Matt Davis: Open Squash is a community-driven nonprofit organization on a mission: to make squash more accessible to everyone by breaking down traditional barriers to the game. More than 25% of our members benefit from some financial support. We offer income-based discounts and scholarships to ensure that financial constraints don’t stop anyone from enjoying squash.
