Man, 67, Punched In Unprovoked Upper East Side Attack, Police Say

Police say the attacker punched the man without warning.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A 67-year-old man was assaulted in an unprovoked attack near Lexington Avenue and East 87th Street on Monday morning, New York City Police Department officials said.

According to the NYPD, the man told officers he was walking in the area around 9:37 a.m. when an attacker approached him and punched him in the face.

The assailant then grabbed the man’s cellphone and slammed it to the sidewalk several times before running off, police said. He was last seen heading south on Lexington Avenue.

The blow left the victim with swelling and bruising, but he did not require hospitalization, according to authorities.

Police are searching for the suspect, and have not made any arrests yet. Police have released surveillance photos of the suspect.
