Man Rescued From East River On Upper East Side, Police Say

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A man was rescued from the East River on Friday morning, an NYPD spokesman said.

Officers from the NYPD harbor and emergency services units responded to a call about a man in the East River near the FDR Drive and East 71st Street shortly after 10:15 a.m., police said. A detective with the emergency services unit entered the river and helped pull the man aboard a police boat, an NYPD spokesman said.

Police brought the man to shore and handed him off to EMS to be taken to Bellevue Hospital, police said. The man was conscious and alert during the transfer, an NYPD spokesman said.

The spokesman could not confirm how the rescued man ended up in the East River.
