Man Sentenced To 10 Years For Raping Sleeping Woman On UES
The 23-year-old man was convicted of raping a woman while she slept over at a friends house.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A man is facing 10 years in state prison for raping a woman while she slept over at a friend's house on the Upper East Side, the Manhattan District Attorney's office announced.
George Fay, 23, was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in prison and five years of supervised release, prosecutors said. Fay was convicted on charges of first-degree rape, criminal sexual act and sexual abuse in February, prosecutors said.
On July 9, 2016 Fay raped a 20-year-old woman while she was sleeping, prosecutors said. The woman was sleeping over at an East 72nd Street apartment where Fay and a friend were staying, prosecutors said. The woman fell asleep in a bedroom next to Fay's friend, prosecutors said.

Fay entered the bedroom where the two were sleeping and raped the woman as she slept, prosecutors said. The woman woke up during the assault, which prompted Fay to flee the room, prosecutors said. The woman later alerted Fay's friend and a building doorman, who called the police, prosecutors said.
"George Fay preyed upon the vulnerability of a sleeping woman who thought she was safe inside an apartment with a friend," District Attorney Cyrus Vance, Jr., said in a statement. "Instead, she awoke to find she was being raped by a complete stranger. I would like to thank the survivor in this case who bravely testified about this vile assault, as well as the prosecutors who secured this conviction – one of ten guilty verdicts obtained in difficult sex crimes cases in the first quarter of this year alone."
