The Met Reveals Upcoming Gala Theme, Costume Exhibit: Reports
The Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual Costume Institute exhibition and gala will pay homage to the "camp."

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — The Metropolitan Museum of Art is set to follow up one of its most popular and wide-reaching Costume Institute exhibitions — "Heavenly Bodies" — with and ode to all things "camp," according to reports.
The Costume Institute's 2019 exhibition "Camp: Notes on Fashion" is inspired by writer Susan Sontag's famous 1964 essay "Notes on 'Camp'" and hopes to reflect society's current infatuation with the exaggerated and ironic style, the New York Times first reported.
Costume Institute Director Andrew Bolton told the Times: "We are going through an extreme camp moment."

"Whether it’s pop camp, queer camp, high camp or political camp — Trump is a very camp figure — I think it’s very timely," Bolton told the newspaper.
The exhibition will be hosted at the Met's Fifth Avenue building in the Iris and Gerald B. Cantor galleries, the Times reported. The show will feature about 175 pieces and 37 designers in an attempt to trace "camp" from its historical origins to its prominent place in today's culture, according to the report.

The annual Met Gala will be held on May 6 and chaired by Vogue's Anna Wintour, music superstarts Lady Gaga and Harry Styles, Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele and tennis great Serena Williams, the Times reported.
