New Le Cirque To Have 'Clubbier' Atmosphere, Report Says

The renowned French restaurant is close to closing on a space for its Upper East Side comeback.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — The upcoming revival of French institution Le Cirque will bring a pared-down, yet "clubbier" atmosphere to the Upper East Side, according to new reports.

The Maccioni family — which founded the renowned restaurant in the 70s at the former Mayfair Hotel on East 65th Street — is closing in on a new space for its comeback, Eater New York reported. Unlike the eatery's Midtown Manhattan iterations, the return to the Upper East Side will see Le Cirque revert to its more neighborhoody roots.

"We want to come full circle; we’ve become tired of large places and want to return to a more boutique, clubbier style," co-owner Mauro Maccioni told Eater. "This will have a more neighborhood feel, like the original Le Cirque."

The family is in negotiations to close on a 75-seat space with a backyard garden, Eater reported. Le Cirque's previous stop on East 58th Street seated more than 200 guests. The restaurant will also return old favorites such as sea bass paupiette and duck l'Orange to its menu, according to the report.
