NY Congressmember Maloney Gets Coronavirus Test, Misses Debate
The longtime New York Congressmember is self-quarantined while awaiting the results of her coronavirus test.

NEW YORK, NY — Longtime New York City Congressmember Carolyn Maloney, who represents parts of Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens, was tested for the novel coronavirus Monday after experiencing symptoms of the disease, the lawmaker announced.
Maloney will self-quarantine while awaiting results of the coronavirus test, she announced Monday on Twitter. The legislator for New York's 12th congressional district did not go into detail about her symptoms, but did encourage other New Yorkers who are feeling unwell to get tested.
Over the past 24 hours I have found myself feeling unwell. Out of an abundance of caution and after consultation with medical professionals, today I was given a COVID test & am self quarantining as I await the results.

Maloney was not present during a Monday night debate hosted by Empire State Indivisible and moderated by the Gotham Gazette ahead of a contested primary election for her district. Challengers Suraj Patel — who earned 41 percent of the vote in 2018 — Peter Harrison and Lauren Ashcraft all participated in the debate ahead of the June 23 primary.

Since the contested 2018 primary, Maloney's position in Congress has grown stronger. Following the death of Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings, Maloney was selected by fellow Democrats to chair the House of Representatives' committee on oversight and government reform.
