Pedestrian Fatally Struck By SUV On Upper East Side, Police Say

An 84-year-old man was hit and killed Thursday on East 72nd Street.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — An 84-year-old pedestrian was hit and killed by an SUV while crossing the street Thursday night on the Upper East Side, police said.

Irwin Cohen was crossing East 72nd Street near Third Avenue around 8:30 p.m. when he was hit by a Chevy Suburban, police said. EMS rushed Cohen to New York Presbyterian Hospital in critical condition, and he later died of his injuries, police said.

The 58-year-old man driving the SUV remained on the scene of the collision and has not been charged with a crime, police said.

Cohen lived on East 72nd Street just a few buildings away from where he was hit, police said.
