Man Hit, Killed By Train On Upper East Side, Police Say

The 69-year-old man died after apparently jumping in front of a 4 train at 86th Street Monday afternoon, according to police.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A man died Monday after apparently leaping in front of an oncoming subway train at a busy Upper East Side station, according to police.

The 69-year-old man jumped in front of a downtown 4 train at the 86th Street-Lexington Avenue stop around 12:30 p.m., an NYPD spokesperson said.

He was pronounced dead at a hospital around 2 p.m., police say.

The train's conductor told police he had seen the man jump, according to the NYPD.

Trains were delayed in both directions along the 4, 5 and 6 lines, with downtown 5 trains running on the 2 line and 4 trains running local between 125th Street and 42nd Street, the MTA said. Service was restored with delays by 2 p.m.

Videos posted to the Citizen app showed emergency vehicles converging on the station entrance.

Just hours earlier Monday morning, another person was hit by a train at the 42nd Street-Port Authority Bus Terminal station. Their condition was not immediately clear.
