Pie-ing It Forward: Readers Share Favorite UES Pizza Makers

Is the Upper East Side New York City's pizza paradise? Quite possibly.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY – In September, with brisk nights inviting cozy dinners indoors, Patch compiled a list of the Upper East Side’s favorite purveyors of delivery pizza.

Readers had a few more to add.

In fact, you might say that the omission of two local favorites left some feeling a bit saucy.

“I really don’t know how you could not mention San Matteo,” wrote Katherine. “The best - really like eating pizza in Rome.”

Victoria agreed.

“[San Matteo] has the best pizza, like no other pizza needs to be on the list it’s so good. Please try the [Margherita]. You’ll thank me.”

Fortunately, two locations, 1716 2nd Avenue – at East 89th Street – and 1559 2nd Avenue – at East 81st Street – will ensure East Siders stay warm and well-fed through the winter.

Another neighborhood favorite? Don Filippo, at 1133 Lexington Avenue and East 79th Street.

“We’re big fans,” said Peter. “Classic [New York] slices and friendly team.”

Don Filippo is “really solid” added Drew, who is also a fan of Italian Village, at 1494 1st Avenue and East 78th Street.

“As a [50-year-old] who has been on the Upper East Side for 25+ years, those are easily two of the best in the neighborhood,” he wrote. “I will say I am a very big fan of one that was mentioned, [Delizia], excellent choice.”

Thanks, Drew. We do our best.

Meanwhile, Nick’s, at 1814 2nd Avenue on the corner of East 94th Street, has been Roslyn’s “go-to for “oh so many years.” She’s particularly fond of their “great toppings.”

Last but certainly not least, Mariella Pizza “rocks!” according to David. “Undoubtedly best slice on [the Upper East Side],” he raved, adding that Mariella is an “OG” that’s been in the neighborhood for decades.

At 965 Lexington Avenue, near 70th Street, Mariella might also solve Ellen’s dilemma.

“I live on 65th Street…and am desperate for any new or noteworthy places to order from. It is barren in this area,” she lamented.

Help is on the way, Ellen, and we hope this new list has you covered.
