Renovated SummerStage Venue Revealed In Digital Tour
A $5 million upgrade to the City Parks Foundation's main concert venue in Central Park will debut during the 2019 season.

CENTRAL PARK, NY — The flagship venue of the city's largest free concert series is due for a major upgrade ahead of the 2019 concert season, and new details about the renovation have recently come to light.
The City Parks Foundation revealed more information about a $5 million renovation to its SummerStage concert venue in Central Park. A new stage, new sound system, increased lighting, upgraded backstage areas, raised seating and an improved concert-going experience are in the works.
The foundation released a digital tour of the renovations this week to give New Yorkers a sense of what the new venue will look like. The Central Park stage hosts more than 30 free performances each year — most in the summer — including some of the music industry's most popular artists for the annual Good Morning America Summer Concert Series.

Approvals for the renovation project were acquired earlier this year. The 20-year-old stage and 10-year-old sound systems were in dire need of repair, according to the City Parks Foundation. About $3 million of the renovation was allocated by public officials and the rest was raised from private donors.
