Spence School To Hold Public Hearing For Expansion Plans
The Upper East Side private school is planning a $74 million expansion to build a new athletic and academic facility on East 90th Street.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Members of the public will get an opportunity to comment on the Spence School's plans to build a six-story athletic and academic facility on East 90th Street.
The Upper East Side all-girls private school will attend a public hearing Thursday regarding its plans to borrow $25 million in tax-exempt revenue bonds to help fund the expansion, which is projected to cost more than $74 million, according to an announcement in the City Record. The hearing will be conducted by the Build NYC Resource Corporation at its headquarters on the fourth floor of 110 William Street, locaed between John and Fulton streets.
The Spence School filed plans with the city Department of Buildings to build its satellite campus in 2016. The expansion facility is located about a mile away from the school's East 91st Street campus and will be located at 412 E. 90th St. between First and Second avenues. The new building would rise 83 feet and would contain 51,805 square feet zoned for community use.

The new satellite campus appears to be a combination of an education and athletic facility. Building plans call for the construction of a two-story gymnasium, locker rooms, squash courts, an exercise room and a number of offices. The building will also contain a classroom and greenhouse on its sixth floor, according to the building plans.
The building site is currently occupied by what appears to be a two-story parking garage. Demolition plans for the garage building were filed in October of 2017.

Thursday's hearing at the Build NYC Resource Corporation is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., according to an announcement in the City Record. There are two other items on the hearing agenda.
