Rain Threatens NYC Weekend, Bringing Significant Temperature Change: Latest Forecast

NEW YORK CITY — After a frigid start to 2026, the National Weather Service is predicting a significant warm-up through the weekend, with highs in the low 50s, but it comes with a trade-off: Rain all weekend long.
The rain is predicted to start on Friday, with a 50 percent chance of rain throughout the day, rising to a 90 percent chance of rain on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
The rain will continue through Sunday, when it is expected to taper off, forecasters said.

As the city starts to dry out, the warmup will end abruptly as we head into the new work week, according to forecasters.

"Some colder air will sweep in behind the storm, finishing up in the Northeast this weekend," AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Meteorologist Paul Pastelok said.
"In many cases, the colder air arriving around mid-January across the Central and Eastern states will not be as harsh as the cold experienced in parts of December."

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 48. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph.
Thursday night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 38. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph after midnight.
Friday: A 50 percent chance of rain. Cloudy, with a high near 51. South wind 5 to 8 mph.
Friday night: A 40 percent chance of rain. Cloudy, with a temperature rising to around 54 by 10 p.m.
Saturday: Rain. High near 53. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent.
Saturday night: Rain. Low around 44. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.
Sunday: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 49.
Sunday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 32.
