Upper East Side Fire Breaks Out In Restaurant, FDNY Says
The fire started in the kitchen of the Genesis restaurant on Second Avenue and East 89th Street.
UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A three-alarm fire broke out in an Upper East Side restaurant Wednesday morning, fire officials said.
The fire started in the kitchen of Genesis, a bar and restaurant on Second Avenue and East 89th Street around 9:50, fire officials said. The blaze prompted a three-alarm response, meaning more than 130 firefighters responded to the scene.
Flames spread from the building's ground floor up to its fourth floor, fire officials said. The fire was placed under control around 11:35.

Video from the scene of the fire showed a thick plume of smoke rising from the building that contains Genesis. Firefighters blocked off the street in front of the restaurant and neighboring properties. The eatery is located on the ground floor of a mixed-use building.
